Getting to Know Dr. Kristen & Dr. Miaken Pt 2

December 6, 2021

We love our Monarch Family Chiropractic docs and know you do (or soon will) too! In our last post, they shared much of their training background, what inspired them to get into chiropractic care, some of their challenges, and a few surprising bits and pieces. This month we have even more to share about how they prioritize continuing education, being new moms, and what they are optimistic about for 2022.  We've also captured a fun peek at their attitude-adjustment play list and what their reading in their spare time!

Dr. Kristen Zawada and Dr. Miaken Zeigler

How often do you “go back to school” for extended training or continuing education related to healing the body and mind?

Dr M:Regularly. We train weekly and monthly with our coaches and local teams; pre-COVID we traveled five to eight times a year to train with teams across the country. In the last year-and-a-half, we did all our training over Zoom. Our training focuses on improving care within our community, supporting the growth and health of our team, and creating health work/life balance. I love seminars that focus on children, brain development, and chiropractic. I also love seminars that will help me improve on my skill set of delivering chiropractic care - in both adjusting and communication. I am a life-long learner; there is always something to be learned!

Dr K: DITTO. Dr. Miaken and I train with all the same teams and chiropractic offices across the world, and have developed the most wonderful health care families and coaches, of which we connect and train with 1-2 times a month year-round ... even through Covid! Zoom was wonderful for allowing us to continue our practice education, clinical knowledge and growth even during the 2020 year. This fall I completed 27 accredited hours in pediatric adjusting (yes, babies get adjusted too!), clinical radiology case studies, and neurodegeneration research. We are also required to stay current in record keeping, documentation and CPR/emergency procedures. We both love educating and delivering the most relevant skills, science and art of chiropractic to our community!

How has your recently becoming a mother influenced your work as a Chiropractor? Are you doing anything differently as compared to before Margot or Zander arrived in your lives?

Dr M: Wow. Being a mom … sometimes there are no words to describe the feelings I have … I just feel everything more. I have so much hope for our children, that they may experience a potential far greater than what we could imagine. The health of our children in this country is dismal; and the outlook for their future is worse. Becoming a mom, I take this personally. For Margot, I’ve done everything I can think of to support her fullest potential. Chiropractic is virtually unknown or not well understood as to the benefits to children and families. It plays a significant role in the healthy trajectory of brain development; and families under chiropractic care tend to make different decisions as it relates to their health. I desire to change the trajectory of what is possible … not just for Margot, but all kiddos. The status quo is not working. Our children deserve better … and we can do better.

Dr K: OMG! Talk about taking it UP 10 notches after becoming a mother and being truly responsible for the vitality, health, and well-being of another human! I am a better person and chiropractor with more clarity and conviction to help heal our community and broken health-care system since Zander arrived 1/11/20. If you thought I was passionate about taking care of families before ... look OUT. My sense of purpose as a healer through the chiropractic adjustment, allowing the brain to properly communicate YOUR life force through your nervous system is what I live for Every-Single-Day … and of course, Zander giggles! I live for those too.

What are the top 3 things you are looking forward to most with the upcoming practice merger?

Dr M: I look forward to building our community of health-minded individuals and families alongside my soul sister and chiropractor, Dr. Kristen. Enjoying the work/life balance between practice and home that will allow me to uplift my role of mom and wife. Making a massive impact on the health and consciousness of our community through vitalistic chiropractic care and education.

Dr K: Practicing alongside one of thee most amazing female chiropractors I’ve ever met (and I’ve met a lot), building a family practice with a team that has as much passion as I have for this vision, and having better work/life balance as a mom/wife by being able to trust my patients care with Dr. Miaken when I’m away from the office.

What are you optimistic about in 2022?

Dr M: Growth. Connection. Community. Health. Joy. There are so many things!

Dr K: Delivering TRUTH & Science about how powerful your brain, body and immune systems are at healing and adapting to our ever changing environment. The fact that we get to share that with a community of people willing to take charge and be proactive in their health journey in this beautiful state of the art new office space, is truly a blessing.

For Fun …

Name 3 songs that are a must listen when you need an attitude adjustment?

Dr M: In no specific order:
1. Higher Love, Steve Winwood
2. Final Countdown, Europe,
3. Right Down the Line, Gerry Rafferty

Dr K:  Links included for fun!
1. Living, Dierks Bently
2. Kiss, Prince
3. Look Up Child, Lauren Daigle

What book(s) are on your nightstand that you are eager to read?

Dr M: One day, when Margot is old enough, I know I’ll get to read again! And I do have stacks on my nightstand! I love a combination of fantasy-fiction, health-related and personal development. My Kindle has the perfect blend of each category: The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, Metabolic by Robert H. Lustig, You Can Fix Your Brain by Tom O-Bryan.

Dr K: Eager is a strong word.
